After issuing some 200 or so tapes in the last five years, Ascetic House pick out Somali Extract’s smartly up-to-date Pareidolia as part of their new vinyl programme, lending a fresh/dank twist of contemporary club murkage to an often all-too-hermetic industrial scene.
In eleven concisely dramatic parts, the Pareidolia LP presents some of the rudest fusions of trap, footwork, trance and grime-influenced sonics with industrial tang that we’ve heard from North America in a minute, teeing off with the decadent glam thrust of Where’s My Home and taking in the shadowboxing styles of Mettle and Replicating Machinery along with hyper rave stuff like Chain Of Mind and lush pockets of Kenji Kawai-esque soundtrack music in Holographic Creation and The Furnace or the M.E.S.H.-like Cradle Song for good measure.
